Artist’s Statement

The compelling beauty of abstract patterns in nature inspires me. My choices of subject are directed by the desire to reveal the beauty in the smallest, simplest expressions of life to expose the inherent mystery of individual elements.

Colors and shapes emerge as undistinguishable from the whole so the viewer is prompted to wonder what it is they are seeing, reveling in shapes and patterns, discovering what would otherwise go unrecognized.

A favorite subject is one which demonstrates the unstoppable movement of nature. Life will show up under any circumstance; my work is to catch it in the act. Whether it is metal decaying with the passage of time, trees creating stretch marks in their bark as they expand in girth, or leaves in the fall losing their color and shape as the life force ebbs, it is the juxtaposition of elements which determines my final composition.
